What draws you to Stephen King?

Ive been thinking about this some lately. Of course, I really like some of his books and there is certainly some I don't care for. But more than that it is clear he just likes writing. Some of the stuff he puts out even he thinks is mid, but it seems like he shrugs and goes let's see what people think. There is a certain confidence to him that he is willing to try so many things and put so much material out there spanning so many genres and characters. I also love his quotes about him being the literary equivalent of McDonald's(I'd argue some of his books are fine dining). And especially his quote about going for terror, then horror, and if none of that works, settling for disgust haha
