How long does it take you to start walking long walks after the surgery?

My surgeon told me to go to the mall as practice for recovery two weeks post-surgery

Edit: thanks for the replies, I am somewhat concerned bc I was kind of shocked when the surgeon told me to go to the mall 2 weeks post-op bc I was still in intense pain and I also had severe abdominal pain and colic that lasted for 3 weeks post op. I could not even move or wake up easily from bed and needed some assistance. Every movement was so painful and I also had intense muscle spasm that was painful and very uncomfortable that got worse if I move even just a little, that lasted for 6 weeks.

I am 2 months post op now and last week I finally went outside for a walk but after only 1000 steps my muscles on the waist are getting too painful to continue and I had to rest. So until now I can only walk around less than or around 1000 steps a day. What is wrong? Oh and I also have a slight leg length discrepancy after the surgery, around 1 cm. idk if it's bad or not but it's making it more difficult to walk
