Potentially picking up Scala for a project after a 5 year hiatus - what's changed?

As a consultant I'm forced to bounce between ecosystems and haven't had the opportunity to work with Scala in about 5 years. Back then it felt like it was all Akka all the time. What's changed? Looks like we're on Scala 3 now? Is sbt still the build tool of choice? What're some of the more popular frameworks/libraries currently?

edit: woah this has been insanely informative! thank all of you so much for the input
