My Birthday Took a Turn: My Boyfriend’s Friend Hit on My Friend—While His Pregnant Wife Was at Home

I had been looking forward to my 25th birthday for weeks. I planned everything in advance—a dinner, some pre-gaming, and then hitting the club. It was the perfect way to celebrate without breaking the bank.

The group was a mix of close friends: my boyfriend, Mark (27), his friend Jason (28), my best friend Tina (29), and her childhood friend Ashley (29). Then there was my friend Eric (24) and the girl he was talking to, Stephanie (26), along with our friend Jesus (30). Ashley had suggested a club she loved, and even though I had been there before on a slow night, I wanted to give it another chance.

One important detail—Ashley is into girls, and everyone in the group knows this.

The night was amazing. We were dancing, laughing, and just enjoying the moment. When the club was about to close, we figured out rides home. Jason offered to drive a few people, so Jesus and Ashley went with him, while the rest of us took a Lyft.

The next morning, I got a call from Tina. Ashley was on the line too. They sounded serious.

Ashley told me that after dropping off Jesus, she was alone in the car with Jason. At first, everything seemed fine—they talked about how fun the night was. Then Jason suggested they hang out again. She agreed, assuming he meant the whole group. But then he clarified, “No, I mean just you and me.”

Ashley reminded him that she’s into girls and even pointed out that, at the club, he had been her so-called “wingman” when she was trying to get a girl’s number. But Jason ignored that and kept pushing. He admitted he had a “baby momma” but claimed they were “just friends.”

By this point, they were outside Ashley’s place, and Jason asked if he could come in and chill. She shut him down immediately, repeating that she wasn’t interested and thanking him for the ride before getting out of the car.

Hearing this left me torn. Just last week, I had been sitting in Jason’s home, talking to his wife about her pregnancy, their almost three-year-old child, and how happy I was for them. Now, I was holding onto this awful secret, wondering what to do.

I told Mark he needed to talk to Jason, to find out if there were problems in their relationship. But now, I’m stuck. Do I tell his wife? She’s pregnant, and the last thing I want is to cause her stress. But at the same time, she deserves to know the kind of man she’s with.

I don’t know what the right move is.
