What was your financial status when you first bought your first business class ticket?

I've always wanted to travel business class but I want to know where you were financially when you first bought* these tickets. How much were you earning per month? How did you pay for it - with points/miles? Where did you go? How much was in your savings account? Do you recommend the experience?

I want to know if I'm getting ahead of myself and I want to know the context for others. I have the money to pay for a business class trip outright (twice) but I don't know if I'm rushing.

*trips sponsored by work/business partners/family not included please hehe.
