This is Eyare, a 2 year old Western Lowland Gorilla who was part of the troop at the Wilder Institute. This image was taken August 25, 2024. Sadly, Eyare died in a freak accident on November 12, 2024. Her death was attributed to human error. Despite the trajedy, and with heavy hearts, the work of the Institute continues to diversify this magnificent species and to protect them from far greater harms at the hands of humans in the wild. Conservancy work is widespread and I would encourage you to grab your camera and pay the entry fee to an organization near you to support their efforts.
