What kind of % gains do you hope to get when investing in a stock?

I see people talking about stocks that would appreciate at most 20% or so, why bother when you can invest in stocks that can get 50% or even 100%+ in gains? At least AI stocks or TSLA have a chance to be big, MSFT won’t yield 50% anytime soon, help me understand why people bother with low returns stocks?
