Unpopular opinion: Houston’s landscape isn’t that dull

Houston is flat and there’s no scenic mountains and hills around. But that doesn’t make it ugly. We’re on the edge of the beautiful Piney Woods and have a lot of lush, beautiful potential for forestry.

We can look at the Woodlands and parts of Lafayette, LA to see how cities with similar landscape can combine their nature to the city.

I spoke with a local urban planner recently that was telling me that Houston had no landscape ordinance until the 90s? (iirc) and people used to bulldoze everything for strip malls and houses and so forth. But new developments do have more regulations when it comes to landscape, which is seen.

But fortunately, our urban parks system is awesome, particularly in the loop.
