What expensive designer or niche fragrances smell cheap to you?

This isn't meant to be an offensive or derogatory post.

In my view, mainstream fragrances have become increasingly generic, and their widespread use has only amplified this perception of "cheap-smelling scents."

Today, I see fragrances from the '60s and '70s as the pinnacle of luxury.

Scents that featured "the cream of civet’s ass," dirty musks, and playful uses of patchouli hit my nose as a form of decadent luxury—or even a nostalgic luxury, evoking longing.

What I define as expensive-smelling fragrances are: Eau Sauvage by Dior, YSL Pour Homme, Mustache by Rochas, Aramis 900, Aromatics Elixir by Clinique, Shalimar by Guerlain, Chanel Pour Homme, and at the top of my list, Guerlain Habit Rouge Cologne.

Fast forward to the last 30 years, and the '90s ushered in a wave of clean, crowd-pleasing scents that, over time, end up pleasing no one.

For my nose, the ultimate cheap-smelling scents today are:

Dior Sauvage (the first time I tried it, I loved it)

Bleu de Chanel (more boring than cheap-smelling, ever since that first test)

La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme (smells expensive in small doses and on certain people)

Allure Homme Sport by Chanel (Edition Blanche, on the other hand, smells luxurious)

Black XS Pour Homme by Rabanne (smells cheap and gives off a peppery BO impression to my nose)

Habit Rouge Parfum by Guerlain (are you kidding with me, Guerlain?)

So, what expensive designer fragrances smell cheap to you?
