Insignia NS-8PDVDA not working

I came across this 2006 Insignia NS-8PDVDA portable DVD player and it’s super neat. However, it always displays “Open”, regardless of whether or not the disk drive is open, and whether or not there’s a DVD in it as well. I’ve tried researching some troubleshooting options (mostly in the manual), but can’t seem to find any insight. Any recommendations? Thank you! Let me know if this is the wrong subreddit for this!
