Mexico Travel in July as a solo female American traveler
Hey, everyone, I need some advice. This is my first time posting on here, but it’s also my first time letting my family influence where I travel. I’m an American, and I understand with the current political climate, Americans are often the butt of jokes around the world, and in many cases, probably for good reason. I've been planning a trip to Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala for June over the past few months. Lately, my family has been extreamly vocal about not wanting me to go, mainly because of the political situation. I’ve traveled to over 30 countries, and about half of those alone, mainly across Asia and Europe, and while my family has always been worried about my solo travels, I’ve never really let it bother me before. But now, with my mom really pushing about Mexico, it’s finally starting to get to me.
So my questions are:
- Should I really be concerned about traveling to Mexico right now?
- Are the people there really upset about Americans, or is it more of a joke to them?
- Should I worry about the government or any potential issues with travel, like the border closing or anything along those lines
(I am specifically traveling to Mexico City, Tulum, and Chetumal.)
Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
