What's the closest thing to an indestructible pickup truck under $50k on the market today?

I'm a novelist doing some research. I have a character who works a middle-class, white-collar office job, but he's also a hands-on, doomsday prepper guy. He's going to want some kind of all-purpose truck, capable of hauling serious loads, in bad weather, etc. He's going to want a truck that's going to run in rain, snow, with minimal maintenance, and drive over potholes like they're nothing.
