Another seemingly too long of a smoke and use of pellets
The last couple crazy long smokes (one took 28 hours) I chalked up to my attempts at doing brisket which I'm not very good at.
This time I am smoking a 8.2 lb pork shoulder and I'm already 16 hours in, my meater thermometer (when the damn thing is actually connected) says it's still got 8 hours to go. (This is obviously wrong as it's currently at 188° inside).
200° overnight 9 hours. Bumped up to 225 in the morning. Bumped up to 250 around 12. Bumped to 300.
Time is one thing.... but what is really irking me is I've burned over 45 lb of pellets easy and when it's all is said and done I'm guessing 60 lb of pellets will have been burned.
Besides electricity this is seemingly adding 20 to $30 to the cost of my cooking it.
I was not expecting this at all coming from a rec tec 700 where a 20 lb bag could get me through an 8 lb pork shoulder easy. This is not a normal use of pellets I'm sorry.
Also, at this point I am thinking that the temperature on the grill is simply not correct. Any advice here other than call Yoder on Monday?
