Backup your kindle books
On 2/26, Amazon is killing the feature that lets you download the kindle books you’ve purchased on to your computer. This will make it impossible to move your kindle e-book library to another e-reader, or just have a backup to your library.
In our house, we got an eternal hard drive just for books and downloaded them. We moved them to Kobo instead. To do this, you have to remove DRM (which is legal for personal use only) and then convert the file to e-pub. There are lots of videos on how to do this.
Maybe this doesn’t seem like prep, but it was a huge part of mine. I want to own my books, music, and entertainment partly to reduce reliance on big tech, but also in case of bans or state-run media.
Happy reading!
