Questions about gguf flux settings in Forge UI

I have a 1080ti so about 11GB of VRAM. Been running nf4_v2 alright for a bit (but it takes 6 minutes to generate an image with decent resolution) but trying to get gguf working now to at least try Q4_0 etc. I have it running but I'm not sure what I am doing. Some questions:

  1. Why do I have to select BOTH clip and t5 in order for forge to allow me to generate? If I select just one it throws an errors saying I need the other. I have to put clip_l, t5 AND a vae into the vae/text encoder box for it to generate at all. I must have entirely misunderstood something but I was under the impression we should be able to choose between clip OR t5, and that t5 is the standard for flux but choosing clip would allow you to try prompting in more of a classic SD style rather than the long descriptive "boomer prompting". Did I completely misunderstand? Is it seriously running both, and is that why my computer damn near catches fire whenever I start generating? It went a lot smoother just running nf4 at least relatively. I don't have a lot of RAM either (16 gigs) so idk if separating clip or whatever to ram is gonna help much, depends on a few things I guess.

  2. Could someone give a thorough explanation of the "Swap Method" and "Swap Location" settings? I assume this is referring to the above mentioned concept of running clip/t5 out of RAM/with CPU but I am confused as to what exactly these settings mean. Does "Shared" imply that both clip/t5 and the rest of the model are both using VRAM? I only have a super surface level understanding of what's actually happening under the hood during generation so I'm lost with what the difference is between these options.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, this thing is fuckin awesome and I really want to be able to maximize how quickly I can make images, though I fully accept that it still won't be great until I stop being poor and get a better GPU. I promise I'll only make horrendous 1girl slop with your help and maybe the occasional PS2 game case for a game called "FUCK"
