Planning on visiting Slovenia, where should I go?

I plan to go to Slovenia in the future, which cities do you recommend?? Which historical sites like Churches, Castles, Palaces or whatever do you think are beautiful and worth a visit?

Also, what kind of Slovenian food do you think I should try?
