Quick Question About Selling Items to Sovereign vs. Guild

Hi I have just a quick question about selling items in-game. If I sell an item to the Sovereign, do I get the same amount of reputation and gold as I would if I sold it directly to a guild? Also, is there any downside or loss in selling items to the Sovereign instead of a guild?
