How do you beat the Ghost Fleet?

Every time that world event starts, It’s just never ending pain for me. I spend so much time trying to catch one of them on the broadside and meanwhile they make it rain hell. Every one of their cannons make so much damage I have to immediately sail away from the island. Even if I don’t risk my life, It NEVER ENDS .

How can I make it easier and faster to complete them? I desperately need some tips and tricks .
