accept internship or wait for more results?
Hello everyone! I have just been offered a fellowship with NOAA for this summer (i am a biology student), but im not sure whether to take it or not for a few reasons: 1. i have to accept it before i know what project im paired with- and im only even remotely interested in my first choice (estuarine research using drones and GIS), but it still doesn’t align with my future interests or past research (animal behavior/ornithology/physiology). 2. There are other programs I want to do way more, and align with my interests much more 3. i’ve received interviews for two other positions related to ornithology, one of which has told me i’m one of their top candidates 4. I don’t even know if they’ll work with my schedule since I have to leave and come back for a conference
The pros to this internship are 1. good stipend (6100$ for 10 weeks) 2. Still really good research experience which I know would contribute valuable skills to my resume (drone handling and GIS) 3. It is school-funded, so I know it probably won’t be affected by all of the federal funding things 4. Is marine-ecosystem based, and i’d like to pursue marine bio most likely
I’ve reached out to the internship which told me I was one of their top choices, but they haven’t gotten back to me about any information. I’m kind of inclined to decline this NOAA fellowship, as it really doesn’t align with many of my long term goals, but i also really don’t want to end up with nothing.
I cannot accept this position and later rescind my acceptance, as this program is organized by someone I work very closely with at my college and would not want to burn that bridge.
