Uncles and aunties of Nepal
I've noticed something interesting when parents of my Nepali friends visit the USA. They often come across as liberal, well-adjusted, and well-educated. However, when I encounter the same uncles and aunties in Nepal, it feels like they transform into a different version of themselves like typical Sasu and Sasura. It's intriguing to think about why this shift occurs and what drives them to uphold traditional roles and expectations. It seems like they take on the responsibility of representing Nepali culture and language, even if their understanding of it might not be as deep as we hope. It makes me wonder about the pressures they face and the complexities of balancing tradition with modernity.
