SO wants me to change my name

Sorry if its the wrong sub:

My SO wants me to change my last name when we get married.

She says its because we’re in a same sex relationship and it would cause issues if we ended up in the hospital, and I wouldn’t be able to see/help her unless we had the same last name. She has expressed concerns about property in the event something bad happens to either of us. She also wants us to ‘be a family’, and she says her name is cooler than mine, and wants me to have the same last name as our dogs (even though I adopted one and I didn’t know she’d given the dog her own last name.)

I get that, but I really love my last name. It’s a popular video game character, and I was born with it. I go by it at work, and I’ve also ended up with a pretty cool nickname that is used often.

Also, the amount of paperwork is pretty freakin high to change it, not just civil, but work wise. I would already have to do a ton of administrative changes just for marriage, and I’ve been working in my field for almost a decade under my current name.

Her last name is pretty cool too, and arguably more well-known than mine, but I’m really attached to my own name.

Am I being a jerk for not wanting to change my name?
