What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?
I’ve been living alone for a while now, and honestly, I love the freedom and peace that comes with it. But before I moved out on my own, I got some really bad advice from well-meaning (but clueless) people. Here are a few gems:
- “You’ll be so lonely! Get a pet or a roommate.” – I wanted to live alone on purpose. I’m not anti-social, I just like my own space. And taking care of a pet isn’t the best solution for loneliness if you’re not ready for the responsibility.
- “Just eat out, cooking for one is too much effort.” – Cooking for myself has been one of the most rewarding parts of living alone. Plus, it saves money and keeps me healthy.
- “You don’t need to lock your doors all the time.” – Uh, what? I’m not taking any chances.
- “You’ll get bored.” – Nope. I finally get to do things on my schedule without interruptions. It’s been amazing.
