Need help with new guitar

I bought a family member a new 60’s standard and it was shipped from the DC area to Florida. It arrived with the box kind of beat up but the case and guitar looking pristine. When he plays it goes out of tune within minutes and has done so repeatedly over a matter of 3 days. There is no visible damage or reason…does anyone have advice or ideas? Thanks in advance.
