Overly Sensitive Smoke Detector
I just moved into a new apartment and when I say my smoke detector is overly sensitive, that's really underselling it. I mean that this thing goes off if I even preheat the oven. It goes off every time I cook, multiple times. I actually tried cooking a full meal tonight for the first time and my partner spent the entire time having to manage the smoke detector going off. We tried covering it with a cloth to add a filter, opening windows, the stove fan stays on. And It still went off about 6 times. The battery is brand new and the system is only 2 years old. I have one in the hallway and one in the bedroom and both are hardwired in.
I let the office know this morning and their response was "yea, mine at my place is sensitive too." No, ma'am. I have always had fairly sensitive smoke detectors. This is unmanageable. She said she would have maintenance come and look at it but seeing as I live in low income apartment, I don't see them doing much about it.
I see some smoke detector dust covers and am curious if those work? Is there anything else I can try or invest in to help manage this?
