Biomedical engineering degree... is it worth it?
I've read a bunch of news that say that the biomedical engineering industry will be hot in the future. For a few months I have been wanting to apply for bioengineering masters program. What's holding me back is that I'm worried I won't be able to find a job in the bioengineering industry, and that I'll have to be stuck in research to make a living.
My intuition is telling me that companies in medical industry are probably more likely to hire mechanical engineers or chemical engineers to build medical equipment, design diagnostic tools, create artificial biomaterials etc. I've looked into various grad programs in bioengineering and biomedical engineering, and to me they seem more like life sciences programs. Like they are more suitable for people who plan to stay in academia.
I want to hear from you guys that my assumptions are wrong, but the whole bioengineering masters program doesn't seem very engineer-like if it makes any sense at all. Most of it seems like scientific research. I can't make up my mind about applying. My ultimate goal is to work in technical field and I don't want to be disappointed after I graduate.
