Google wallet NFC and card nickname question

My phone (7pro) and my wifes (7) have slightly different displays in Google Pay.

Mine shows the ))) NFC symbol at the top, and does not show the nickname of the card.Hers does NOT show the ))) NFC symbol and DOES show the nickname.

A friend who also has a 7 (same as wife's) behaves like MY phone. So it seems to be a configuration issue, but we cannot figure out where.
