GRE Debrief : Shifted from GMAT
Im writing this especially for fellow GMAT aspirants who couldnt get their target scores on test day for any reason and are disheartened.
Recently gave the GRE and received beyond my expectations a 338 (Q170 V168). Perhaps its luck or blessings, given how good of a score this is. I gave GMAT recently and scored a 675 (Q81, V87, DI 82). Although I scored 705+ on mocks regularly, so maybe just bad test day stress management. After my GMAT prep of 5-6 months and the exam, I hardly spent ~3 weeks to prepare for the GRE alone. Since except vocab and Geometry, its all quite similar.
IMHO, the new GMAT focus version is not so much difficult as it is unpredictable. If you scored a 755+, not discounting the effort you put in, probably you were very lucky to get the right set of questions (especially true in Data Insights and to an extent in Quant). Multiple GMAT attempts can solve this (possibly GMAC business model at this point, given all the haphazard scoring), but the hole of money you will burn and the anxiety that the uncertainty brings is quite palpable.
The GRE, although challenging in itself is quite predictable in question types and has a stronger correlation between plain hard work/aptitude and score. Note tho, This is my experience and yours may vary.
TLDR: If either of the exam is not working for you, Leave your toxic relationship with it and go for whichever works better. Repeating the same thing again and again and expecting different results is Insanity. Imo, We are extremely fortunate to have the option of 2 different exams of differing strengths and weaknesses.
All the best!!
