Unofficial Score - 159V, 170Q - Over and Out!
I had my test yesterday morning and got a 329. I'm happy with my score and it is well above my target score of 320. I technically started prep in late January of this year and bought the Magoosh 6 month plan. I used to simply solve questions inconsistently, until April. I didn't really put in dedicated time. I sincerely started studying from mid May. I quickly finished the 5lb for Quant within May. However, I noticed I was quite lacking in verbal and took up Gregmat in June. u/gregmat is a life-saver! My verbal improved because of his strategies and tips. My exam was originally scheduled for 12th July but there was a power outage at the center and it got rescheduled to yesterday. I was distraught to learn that my ~2 months of prep was extended by almost another month. I have to admit this really tested my tenacity. I took a week off and resumed by end of July. I'm glad it all paid off in the end.
My scores in the mocks were as follows:
The ETS tests are not loading for some reason so I'm unable to view individual scores.
PP1 - 314
PP2 - 307
PPP1 - 318
PPP2 - 319
PPP3 - 323
Gregmat1 - 319 (162V, 157Q)
Gregmat2 - 318 (161V, 157Q)
Gregmat3 - 321 (165V, 156Q)
I was making silly mistakes due to negligence in quant throughout which dragged my score down most of the times. I overcame this by simply giving more and more tests on Magoosh besides the ones above and forcing myself to the exam pressure.
I used the big book and gregmat for TC and RC practice and gregmat for SE practice. Additionally, I solved around 25-30 sets from the KMF question banks. For quant, it was around 70-80% of gregmat, few gmat questions and few sets from KMF again. To top it all i reviewed the official guides a week before the test.
My advice for verbal - vocab is a must. It is an integral part of the entire verbal section. Master the 34 grps from gregmat. In my opinion, they are sufficient and cover you for both TC (in terms of knowing words) and SE.
For RC, which was my weakest point, i relied on two skills mainly.
1) reading the passage swiftly and making a mental summary of each sentence i read and do this within a minute. Start with rephrasing the sentences on paper like greg suggests and gradually ditch the pen and paper, do it mentally. It will save you time.
2) Eliminating options. At times, some options are incorrect due to just one word that they contain. This skill will also come with practice.
The quant is manageable. You might find it difficult because you might be rusty with the calculations and some concepts because its prolly 4-5 years since you're out of school. Give yourself time to revise. Don't go on an ego-trip and get stuck on a question in the test. Leave it and come back later. Give verbal its respect and focus on skill-building.
Once again a big thank you to the goat u/gregmat! The way you distill your knowledge and make it so easy to understand is incredible.
This sub was really helpful in my prep. I learnt a lot from others strategies, prep plans and test experiences. Thank you so much! Happy to answer any questions and in a few days I'll bid adieu. Truly one of the best and helpful subs ever!
