What do Chinese think of Vietnamese?

I am a vietnamese who is living in the U.S for few years now and i think we are all clear about what has happened and what is happening between us, from dynasties, wars, cultural influences to becoming friendly or tolerant towards eachother, visiting eachother's countries, planing business together and working together in the borders.

I was born in the 2000s in the far south of Vietnam and growing up being taught that China isn't a good guy, i didn't really care about it, but it was imprinted in the back of my mind.

Through time i've come to realize that chinese people aren't bad, i've interracted with chinese people in asian shops, restaurants, watching youtube videos about daily life in China etc. I don't think they're bad, they're normal, calm and quiet and i think we vietnamese can relate to them at certain points.

Doing research about history, we vietnamese do have chinese blood in us, even some Kings were chinese descendants, that makes me sometimes think when i see a chinese, i'm like: hmmm, that's my long distant brother. I grew up watching Journey To The West, Son Wukong and other chinese swordplay films and i thought it was cool. My surname is Trần from my father and my mother is Trương, which is Chen and Zhang ( 陳 張 ) and there are lots of other vietnamese with chinese vietnameseized surnames, it makes me think we're basically chinese, but speaking different languages ( sorry for the taboo if you think it's uncalled for ). I've seen so many samurais and ninjas in asian video games and animes and i thought it lacked warriors from China, i mean China is big and there were lots of stories to tell.

I like the chinese culture and most chinese things in general and i would actually visit the country in the future, first things i think is trying out chinese food to compare it with vietnamese food, visiting chinese temples, hearing their teachings and seeing The Great Wall of China.

That's what i think about China, i doubt that i'm the only one as a vietnamese that thinks like this, it's the modern world, things change and the youth are just curious and carefree lol.

What are your thoughts about us vietnamese as a chinese person?

I am honestly interested in hearing your thoughts!
