Why isn’t BU Econ a STEM / BS degree?

As a senior Econ major in my last semester at BU, I can safely say that 90% of all the econ courses that I’ve taken is just statistics, production functions, linear algebra / regressions, and calculus.

I really tried these last few semesters to find a course that just focused on policy, history, or the actual social science side of economics, but aside from EC320, there was basically nothing.

It actually baffles me that we’re grouped with communication and business majors when the amount of math and statistics we do in econ just heavily outweighs the social science aspects. I understand that the math we do is to analyze human/business behavior, but it just feels like we’re essentially doing applied mathematics with an economic lens rather than studying a traditional social science. Many colleges (Harvard, MIT, Yale) have already started classifying Econ as STEM, but BU has yet to follow. I rest my case.

Edit: After reading through your comments I understand that theres no difference between BA and a BS. That said, I still stand by my point that BU Econ should be a STEM degree. I’d like to hear whether people agree / disagree with that statement.
