What is the easiest way to wire this cook top, preferably with a plug.

I'll preface this by saying I know enough about home electrical to be dangerous. I've wired plenty of things but have limited experience in a panel. I understand it conceptually, I think 🤔

I have been wanting one of these flat tops for a while now and have a chance to get this for free if I can use it. model is the HT-610. The owner looked into having it installed in his home kitchen but was told he needs a dedicated breaker with 40A 120V and 8 gauge wire or something like that. The wiring coming out of the back of the cook top looks similar to what I've seen in something like a heated bathroom fan, thicker than a lamp but nothing crazy, definitely not 8 gauge. I didn't take note of what it actually was though, other than green white and black.

Regardless of what I need to do the panel is directly next to the current cook top (but opposite side of the wall). That makes it easier to make a short run to a plug or box, and also I have access to 220V if that is how I should be doing this. In the diagram it looks like they're showing it being hooked to 220V.

So, how do I? Do I need to run this with 120 power using special wiring and a breaker? Can it run on 220 in the US? Should I? (I do see the Hz difference) I have ideas, but one of those includes slapping a 120 plug on it and only running one side (½ power, right🤣). I rent, and I can make certain improvements to the house if I need, but a crazy long cord to the box is a better solution for me than cutting into several walls to put a box or plug right behind it. I could even use a clothes drier plug that's very close by. To me being able to unplug and put it away is well worth the iconvenience and expense of a heavy gauge cord if needed. Also not having to do drywall.

Thank you all in advance!
