When Introducing Characters

Hi, I'm quite new to using this site and I am currently planning on posting my first work. I just wanted some help for when it comes to introducing characters.

So, my question is that when you're introducing a certain character from a fandom, do you usually usually context about the character's history or should I just write them under the assumption that whoever clicked my work is already part of the tagged fandom and know enough of the character.
